Colonial Lima with Lunch at Huaca Pucllana - Callao - 2018 ( 7 Hours )
Callao, Peru | 12 Apr 2018

  • Meals: Lunch
  • Recommended Ages: All Ages
  • Activity Level: Moderate
  • Experience(s): Food & Wine • Sightseeing • Culture, History & Arts

Ancient Lima's history documents wave after wave of advanced civilizations. Its first inhabitants were Andean hunters and harpoon fishermen. Archaeological excavations have revealed remains that are more than 1,000 years old. Tradesmen followed – the Wari were expert ceramists; the Chancay built immense urban centers; and in the 15th century, the dynasty of the Incas began.

Our day begins with a drive from the pier downtown for a panoramic tour of Lima’s colonial center which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. We will make a brief stop at the main plaza where our guide will give us a brief explanation of Lima’s history and we will have the opportunity for some great photos. We will then walk to Casa Aliaga, the best preserved colonial mansion in the America’s. Casa Aliaga has been occupied by the same family since 1535. After a short visit we will re-board our coach and make our way to the Larco Herrera Museum, an extensive private collection of pre-Inca ceramics – probably the largest collection of its kind in the world. This fabulous museum also harbors the largest private collection of pre-Columbian art in the world. The exhibits feature ceramic, gold, stone, wood and textiles of pre- Hispanic cultures, especially the Peruvian northern cultures. The Textile Art Room, the Great Room of the Culture and the Gold Vault Room are outstanding. After our tour, it will then be time for our wonderful luncheon.

We’ll dine on delicious Peruvian specialties complimented by wine in a unique and unparalleled setting, Huaca Pucllana Restaurant, which is situated within the compound of a 1,500 year old adobe pyramid built by the original inhabitants of Lima. Beautiful and serene, the restaurant boasts incredible views of the pyramid. After lunch, we will return to the pier.

Suggested Attire/Walking Notes: Casual attire with comfortable shoes. There will be moderate walking with 20 steps at Casa Aliaga and a few steps at ramps at the Larco Herrera Museum.
