Waiheke Island One Day itinerary

Waiheke Island is the ultimate island retreat. Clients will feel another world away, and yet Waiheke Island is just a 35-minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland or a 10 minute helicopter transfer. Known as the ‘island of wine’ for its many award winning boutique wineries and vineyards, a wine tasting or private tour is a must.

Waiheke Island is one of Auckland’s 3 wine regions that produces critically acclaimed wine and provides distinctive wine and cuisine experiences. Waiheke Island’s climate is strongly influenced by the surrounding sea.

The ocean acts as both a fan and an insulator. Sea breezes moderate rising temperatures in mid-summer and the falling temperatures of night.

Waiheke Island historically grew a Bordeaux style of wine, however more recently varieties such as Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc are also making an appearance.

With regular ferry crossings with Fullers, clients can join a wine tour for the day and chose to return to downtown Auckland at their leisure.

To complement to the fine wines you will taste on Waiheke Island is the range of delectable hand-made specialty foods and locally-grown produce.

Each vineyard offers gourmet samples to accompany their wines, such as succulent local oysters, wild honey and olive oil, accompanied by a cheese board.

For those seeking some thrill, add a zip line adventure to a clients tour. Ananda Tours collect your clients from Matiatia Wharf and transfer to the EcoZip Adventures site on Trig Hill for a flying fox zip line and guided hike experience.

Three 200m dual flying fox zip lines will fly thrill seekers smoothly side-by-side with a partner, friend or relative down into a stunning tract of original and regenerating native forest.

It's a scenic interpretive walk back to base, where you'll learn about local flora and fauna and the conservation of our spectacular natural environment. Afterwards, clients are collected and taken to three of the top vineyards on the Island, according to preference and seasonal availability. The tour includes a platter-style lunch at one of these vineyards.

Clients will then be returned to a late afternoon ferry back to Auckland.
