Glasgow City Day Tour

“The Second City of the Empire” Heading West this morning to Glasgow Scotland’s largest city which has risen from its industrial past to become one of Scotland’s most popular and stylish cities.

Glasgow enjoys a reputation as a city of culture and architecture. Vibrant and energetic, the city achieved European City of Culture in 1990 and finished the millennium as UK City of Architecture. Its magnificent architectural heritage has been formed by the blending of styles including Classical, Italian Renaissance and Art Nouveau.

There are many interesting sites waiting to be explored and you might like to begin the morning with a panoramic tour of the City Centre famed for its impressive architecture and the imposing 13th Century Cathedral with its Victorian Necropolis overlooking the city.

On by the historic Merchant City and along the banks of the River Clyde towards some of the city’s finest museums including the Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery, the hugely popular Riverside Museum of Transport and Travel and in peaceful Pollock Country Park the award winning Burrell Collection which houses objects of major importance in numerous fields of interest.

Charles Rennie Mackintosh the famous architect, designer and artist was born in the city and many buildings have a “Mackintosh” association from the iconic Glasgow School of Art which is Mackintosh’s architectural masterpiece attracts to the attractive House for an Art Lover.

In addition to its heritage and culture Glasgow has the best shopping in the UK outside London from its famous malls on Princes Square and the Buchanan Galleries to the exquisite designer stores of the Merchant City.

It is suggested that a maximum of three visitor attractions be visited today and it is of course possible to return to Edinburgh by the “Bonny” banks of Loch Lomond “Queen of Scottish Lochs” so often celebrated in song and verse.
