Scotland - Royal Edinburgh - Full Day Tour

Meet an expert local guide for a full day sightseeing tour of Scotland's capital city, on which you will see the landmarks that are associated with the city’s royal heritage. First head up to Edinburgh Castle, where you will see the 'Honours of Scotland', or the Scottish Crown Jewels, and obtain stunning views of the city. Continue down the Royal Mile to St. Giles Cathedral, home to the Order of the Thistle of which the Queen is the head. The lower end of the Royal Mile is called the Canongate; here you will see the royal church in Edinburgh, the venue of the wedding of Zara Phillips, the Queen’s granddaughter. At the end of the Royal Mile, and opposite the magnificent Scottish Parliament building, is Holyrood Palace, the Queen's Official Residence in Scotland. (You will tour the staterooms of the palace if no member of the Royal Family is staying here at the time.)

This afternoon, drive down to the city docks at Leith, where you will board the former Royal Yacht Britannia, now permanently moored here. Built in Scotland, this ship was used by the Royal Family for many official voyages during her working life. See the elegant staterooms where the Queen hosted dinners. See the intimate private quarters where the Royal Family relaxed, and also the ‘behind the scenes’ areas where the crew lived and worked.

Full Day Edinburgh Tour
World festivals that draw millions a year and UNESCO World Heritage sites that timeline Scotland's history make Edinburgh an epicenter of the collision between the country's fascinating past and vibrant culture. This historic city is split between two distinct areas by the beautiful Princes Street Gardens. To the south is the old town which is famous for its medieval design and represents the perfect maze for any urban explorer. The highlight of this area is the Edinburgh Castle that consumes the city skyline and by no coincidence is the most visited spot in Edinburgh. Stories of Edinburgh's past will be unavoidable around every turn as you learn about everything from massive battles to lavish feasts. The main vein of the old town can be found in the west to east running Royal Mile that stretches from the aforementioned Edinburgh Castle to the Holyrood Palace. One of the most famous streets in the world, the Royal Mile is full of some of the best attractions in the area including the Scottish Storytelling Center, St. Giles' Cathedral, the Scottish Parliament and countless restaurants and shops.

North of Edinburgh and in the port of Leith you will visit the Royal Yacht Britannia. This former yacht of the British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, was decommissioned in 1997 and now stands as a scope into the lives of the royal family. While in service the yacht was run by an admiral, 20 officers and 220 yachtsmen with a Rolls-Royce on board for in-style land adventures. Receptions for the rich and famous, honeymoons and family holidays were just a few of the yacht's uses as it traveled over one million miles to become one of the most famous ships in the world.

Glamis Castle And St. Andrews
Although in big cities like Glasgow and Edinburgh you can unearth some Scottish charm, it doesn't hit you in the face quite as hard as places like the Glamis Castle and the small city of St. Andrews. The Scottish countryside is often a selling point for any potential traveler and the village of Glamis, with its world-renowned castle, makes this an easy testament to back up. After entering the Queen Mother Gates, you will quickly learn why this is considered the most beautiful castle in all of Scotland. Turrets and towers will be the first to catch your eye as your licensed guide provides the rundown on the castle's evolution and legendary tales. Make sure to ask them about the Monster of Glamis! The entire estate covers more than 14,000 acres.

The "capital" of golf has to be placed somewhere and St. Andrews provides the perfect home. The primary course in the area is the most famous in the world and exploring the turf can be as mystical as any 14th century castle. Don't worry if golf isn't your thing as St. Andrews is also home to one of the best and oldest universities in Britain, earning the city the title of Scotland's academic capital. Between the medieval feel and storied past in sports and academics, you won't find a more majestic place in all of Scotland.
