Our day begins with a drive through the splendid countryside to the scenic spot of Kanoni, where we will have the opportunity to take memorable photographs of the famous Mouse Island. Mouse Island (Pontikonissi in Greek) is a small island housing an old chapel, which according to legend, the ship Poseidon turned to stone while taking Odysseus back to his home in Ithaca. Next to Mouse Island is the pretty Convent of Vlacherna, built on a rock. Visitors cannot say they have been to Corfu without taking pictures of these two tiny islands!

From Kanoni, we continue to Corfu Town, passing outside Mon Repos Palace, where Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh and the British Queen’s husband, was born in 1921 and baptized. The Greek Royal family spent their summer holidays at Mon Repos until the last King Constantine, after a referendum in 1974, went into exile in England.

Before arriving in Corfu town, we stop at Garitsa Bay to admire the beauty of the old Venetian Fortress built in the 16th Century and the church of Saint George built the 19th Century. Upon arrival in Corfu Town, we will enjoy a guided walking tour around the picturesque streets of one of the most impressive cities in Greece. In 2007, the old town was named on the UNESCO World Heritage List. We will see many historical sites including the residence of the British High Commissioner, a splendid Edwardian building completed in 1824, once the seat of the Knights of Saint Michael and Saint George until 1864, and later the Palace of the King of Greece; the bronze statue of the British High Commissioner, Sir Frederick Adam; the Venetian quarters of Cambiello and Corfu’s Historical Center; the Town Hall, once a Venetian theatre, built in 1690; the Church of Saint Spyridon, Patron Saint of Corfu housing rare icons and where the Holy body of the Saint lies in a crypt; and finally the famous Liston, where once only the Elite of Corfu were allowed to meet and still the only cricket ground to be found in Greece. There will be some free time in Corfu Town before rejoining the motor coach to continue the tour.

Next we drive to Paleokastritsa, one of the most celebrated spots on the island. The area features six small coves with incredibly clear water nestled in a coastline of hills and a peninsula draped in olive, cypress and lemon trees. Begin with a tour of the 13th century monastery of the Virgin Mary, magnificently built on a rock. Walk through the small garden, admire the fascinating views and visit the Greek Orthodox Church and small museum housing rare icons and books. The Monastery on the grounds of the church is still inhabited by monks today.

Our final stop is for a mouth-watering lunch at Ambelonas Vineyard, a country style restaurant. This is one of the most popular vineyard restaurants on the island, situated on the outskirts of the village of Pelekas, in the middle of a large farming area. The owners are proud of keeping the original building unchanged as well as well as the beautiful gardens with old trees surrounding the vineyard. Take a seat in the garden under the shade, relax and satisfy your hunger with delicious Greek and Corfu specialties while enjoying excellent service.

After lunch, we will return to the ship after a memorable day in Corfu!
