A Morning in Denpasar

Spend a morning exploring Denpasar, the capital and hub of the island. On arrival in Denpasar stroll around the famous Badung Market where the locals bargain for a wide variety of food and products from all over the island. Your guide will explain how the many exotic spices and herbs are used in Indonesian cooking, and you can even sample some of the delicious tropical fruits. From the market walk to a nearby family run Chinese coffee shop that has been passed down through the generations. Sample a cup of one of their many freshly brewed coffees. If your wallet can stretch to it, why not buy some of the famous but expensive Kopi Luwak, or civit coffee, to take home as an unusual souvenir. Next, its time to visit some of the museums to get a feel for the history of the island. At the Bali Museum see the various collections of weapons, sculptures, paintings, textiles, musical instruments and theatrical masks. Then visit Bajra Sandi, the war museum, with its impressive monument and exhibits that portray the different wars that were fought during Indonesia s fight for independence.

Hidden Bali Trekking

Today you are picked up by your driver and tour guide for the drive to a small village near Mengwi for the start of your 3 hour trek. On this easy trek you will walk over small hidden paths through rice paddies, past rivers and coconut plantations. The guide will explain to you everything about the ancient Balinese Subak system that is used to distribute water evenly for all farmers to water their sawahs (rice fields). This area in Tabanan is also called the granary of Bali because of its outstretched paddy fields that provide a lot of the rice consumed on the island. There will be plenty of opportunities to take great pictures of the stunning scenery. The guide will arrange a pause where you will be served a refreshing coconut to drink. The trekking ends in Mengwi where we have built a bale in a rice field next to a small stream and where a simple local lunch is served. Return to your hotel.
