Auckland Impressions and a Festive Lunch - Auckland - 2018 ( 6 Hours 15 Minutes )
Auckland, New Zealand | 19 May 2018

  • Meals: Lunch
  • Recommended Ages: All Ages
  • Activity Level: Moderate
  • Experience(s): Food & Wine • Culture, History & Arts • Sightseeing

Today we will board a luxury coach for a panoramic tour of New Zealand’s largest city. Many of the early buildings date back to the 1880’s, now threaded amongst the high rise and modern buildings of today. Tour highlights will include Queen Street and the Downtown area, the Viaduct Basin and the newly developed Wynyard Quarter.

As our coach proceeds along Auckland’s picturesque waterfront route, Tamaki Drive, to the beaches of the affluent seaside suburbs of Mission Bay and St Helier’s Bay, we will stop at Bastion Point for panoramic views over the Hauraki Gulf. After visiting the charming Parnell Village with its artisan and boutique shops occupying beautifully restored historic buildings, we’ll continue to the Auckland War Memorial Museum situated prominently in the Auckland Domain.

In one of New Zealand's most outstanding historical buildings, we have the opportunity to view fascinating exhibits of Maori and early European history of New Zealand; encounter monumental carvings, canoes and taonga (treasures) of the Maori people and gain an insight into the diversity of cultures which is modern New Zealand. The museum’s new entrance foyer is an amazing architectural feature, as is the beautiful curved glass structure rising above the function center. Additionally, we’ll enjoy an exclusive guided tour introducing us to some of the highlights of the museum including the impressive Maori Gallery.

Following this informative and insightful experience, we will be transferred to one of Auckland’s most visible landmarks – the Auckland Ferry Building. Inside, we will dine in the elegant Harbourside Restaurant. Harbourside Ocean Bar Grill reopened on November of 2013 after an extensive six-month refurbishment that has taken the iconic Ferry Building’s hospitality to a new level. The traditions of Harbourside have been modernized, the resulting in a cleverly designed premium seafood restaurant located in an up-market environment that delivers a unique experience. Originally from Hungary, head chef Thomas left his family fish restaurant and travelled the world learning from the finest chefs. He worked in Italy, Germany and the UK, including at notable Michelin star restaurants, Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s and The Fat Duck. Thomas and his wife arrived in New Zealand in 2011 before moving to Harbourside in 2013.

We will enjoy a welcome glass of bubbles upon arrival followed by a three-course gourmet lunch experience. Harbourside offers a wide choice of seafood and other European dishes in the delightful setting overlooking Auckland's Waitemata Harbour.

After lunch, we re-board our coach for the transfer back to the pier in Downtown Auckland.

Suggested Attire/Walking Notes: Smart casual clothing with comfortable flat soled footwear. Moderate walking. At Bastion Point there is a walk of approx 300 meters and this includes approx 30 steps.
