Bilbao is a city of contrasts as it successfully blends its traditional Basque culture with a new vision for the future, which you'll discover on your tour. Superb architecture includes the Guggenheim Museum and Vizcaya Bridge, a World Heritage Site built in 1893 and the first of its kind. The medieval part of the city, Casco Viejo, is also locally known as the Seven Streets, since these were the seven streets that formed the original medieval town. (B)

After checking out of the hotel, you'll visit the Guggenheim Museum, a magnificent example of groundbreaking 20th-century architecture housing prominent modern and contemporary works. Afterwards, you'll be taken to the Mercado de la Ribera, Bilbao's famous market located on the picturesque waterfront. Here, you'll find the entire spectrum of the Basque Country's gastronomical delights. Following your visit here, you'll go to Guernica, known throughout the world due to the painting by Pablo Picasso that bears the same name. Two of the most important political symbols of the Basque Country can be found in Guernica — the Biscayan Assembly House and the Guernica Tree. Later in the day, transfer to the seaside resort of San Sebastián and check into your hotel. Enjoy an evening walk through the Old Town, the heart of San Sebastián. (B)

San Sebastián became a fashionable destination for Spanish royalty during the 19th century. By the early part of the 20th century, San Sebastián reached the pinnacle of fame when Queen Maria Cristina and her court spent the summers at the Palacio de Miramar. During this period, the city was given its splendid Belle Époque makeover that has left a legacy of sophisticated Art Nouveau buildings. Your city tour showcases its grand architecture, alluring coastline, and captivating culture. (B)

Check out of your hotel and board a motorcoach to the legendary land of wine, Bordeaux. En route, travel through the "French Basque" countryside with a stop in the charming fishing village, Saint-Jean-de-Luz, and Arcachon, one of the gems of the French Atlantic coast, offering a mix of beaches, extensive Belle Époque architecture, and its famous oysters. Visit the impressive Castle of Roquetaillade, an amazingly preserved masterpiece of medieval military architecture owned by the same noble family for 700 years. Afterwards, travel to the Sauternes wine region to either Château de Rayne Vigneau or Château Guiraud to taste the highly prized golden-hued sweet wines produced here. (B,L,D)

Pauillac, a lovely village on the Left Bank of the Gironde Estuary, is the gateway to the famed Médoc region, renowned for producing some of the world's finest Bordeaux wines. You will see some of the most beautiful and famous wine estates, including Château Latour, Château Mouton Rothschild, Château Lafite Rothschild, and Château Pichon Longueville. You'll then visit either Château Gruaud-Larose or Château Léoville Poyferré for a tasting of Grand Cru wines. (B,L,D)

Once in Blaye, you can join a tour of its 17th-century citadel, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For a more active excursion, take a bike ride from Blaye through the idyllic French countryside. During the afternoon, you can cruise to Bourg or join a bike tour along Santiago's path—a famous pilgrimage route—to Bourg. While in the ancient village of Bourg, visit the Carriage Museum, which houses a wonderful collection of horse-drawn vehicles. Later in the day, experience the hospitality of this charming medieval village with an exclusive wine festival. Meet the local wine growers and taste the fruits of their labors as well as enjoy live French music and dancing. (B,L,D)

Libourne, France

Libourne provides a gateway to one of Bordeaux's most elite wine regions, Saint-Émilion, known for its celebrated vineyards. Join an excursion to historic Saint-Émilion, and while here, explore the monolithic church carved out of one piece of limestone rock, and then go under the church to discover its catacombs and caves. Afterwards, enjoy a Grand Cru Classé wine tasting at either Château de Ferrand or Château de Pressac. If you prefer a more active adventure, pedal through the vineyard-rich countryside to Saint-Émilion and then to Château Soutard for a Grand Cru Classé wine tasting. (B,L,D)

Tour the magnificent Château de Vayres, one of the most prestigious historic buildings of Aquitaine, or spend time discovering the Bastide town of Libourne and then stroll through its colorful open-air market, tasting some of the region's specialties. For a more active exploration of the countryside, enjoy a hike followed by a wine tasting. Later in the day, you will have two options for excursions. Visit Château de Montaigne, a stunning 14th-century castle that was the family residence of philosopher Michel de Montaigne and enjoy a lovely wine tasting. Alternatively, visit Fronsac, where you can taste some of the regional wines at a grand wine cellar. (B,L,D)

DAY 11
Bordeaux, France

The breathtaking capital of the wine world, Bordeaux is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and classified as a "City of Art and History". You'll have an opportunity to experience much of the rich culture and architecture on a city tour followed by a visit to the Bordeaux Wine Museum, housed in an awe-inspiring building. Bike enthusiasts will wish to join a tour along the city's amazing network of bicycle paths. (B,L,D)

Disembark your ship in Bordeaux and continue your journey by motorcoach to Tours, France—gateway to the Loire Valley châteaux. Renowned for good food and good living and teeming with art, history, and lovely gardens, it's the perfect place to explore or join a walking tour. You'll then be transferred to your hotel in Amboise. (B)

Visit three of the Loire Valley's regal châteaux starting with the Château de Chenonceau, one of the most beautiful castles in France. This château has been referred to as the "Women's Castle" since it is the only castle in the region that has been built, inhabited, and saved by women during the Renaissance. Château du Clos Lucé was Leonardo da Vinci's last home where he completed some of his most famous works under the patronage of the King of France. Château d'Amboise, perched on a promontory overlooking the Loire River, was the first Renaissance château built in the Loire Valley and features extravagant residences, gardens, and a Gothic chapel, where Leonardo da Vinci is buried. En route to Paris, visit two more majestic châteaux. Château de Chambord, located at the heart of Europe's largest enclosed wooded park, is now the biggest château in the Loire Valley with 426 rooms. Next, marvel at the residence of seven kings and ten queens of France at the famous Château de Blois, where you'll discover the secrets of the French court. Afterwards, transfer by motorcoach to your hotel at Charles de Gaulle Airport. (B)

Brochure prices are per-person, U.S. dollars, based on double occupancy of a cabin, or standard hotel room, unless indicated otherwise. | Single rates are available for the cruise-only, at a supplement of plus-50% for standard rooms, plus-100% for other rooms, such as deluxe rooms and suites. | Single rates for land are available at a supplement. | Please see individual itineraries for amount of the supplement. | Pricing accuracy is assured only at time of printing. | If any of the cost factors increases, such as airfare, port or dock charges, fuel, insurance, taxes, surcharges or other, we reserve the right to increase cruise or cruise tour prices without notice.

Cancellation Policy: For any cruise/land booking, whether under deposit, partially paid, or paid in full, including air packages, the following travel agent or guest-requested situations are considered cancellations and penalties will apply as noted below: changes to departure date; substitutions of itinerary; substitution of another person for original booked guest(s); or changing to a promotional fare. All cancellations must be in writing. For all air-inclusive packages cancelled after issuance of an airline ticket, the air portion of the refund, if any, will be processed only after the return of airline ticket. The following cancellation charges will be assessed for all written cancellations received prior to departure up to the scheduled time of departure.

Cancellation received | Following charges will apply: (Broken out by days before departure) 121 days or more is $200 per person | 120-90 days is $400 per person | 89-60 days is 35% of full fare | 59-30 days is 50% of full fare | 29-7 days is 80% of full fare | 6 days prior to sailing is 100% cancellation. Full Fare is defined as the full cost of any cruise, land or air component purchased from AmaWaterways. All air purchased through AmaWaterways has a cancellation penalty of $350 per person for Economy and $600 per person for Business class. In the event you purchase a non-refundable ticket, the full fare is under penalty.

*Certain airline tickets, including all intra-Asia Flights within 90 days of departure and published price tickets, are 100% non-refundable. Penalty rates shown are for flight arrangements deposited/booked from July 1, 2014 onward. Except as otherwise provided in your Passenger Ticket Contract, after travel begins, there is no refund for unused services, or unused portions of cruise, cruise/tour or airfare.
