Hamilton in Chicago
See p. 54
- Chicago debuts the first production of 11-Tony-winning musical Hamilton outside New York, beginning September 27 for an open run. Attendees won’t catch creator Lin-Manuel Miranda onstage, but a weekend getaway, including tickets, travel, and a hotel, will likely run them less than the show alone in New York, where tickets are commanding upward of $800.
Las Vegas Hot Spot
See p. 46
- The new pawn-shop-inspired Beauty & Essex at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas focuses on the gem and jewel side of the business rather than the grit: Framed lockets line a corridor, patrons steal glimpses of each other at a bar walled in mirrors, and pearl strands drape from the chandelier in the 10,000-square-foot space. As at the NYC original, chef Chris Santos has created a menu of shared plates (Thai crispy shrimp, French onion soup dumplings, lobster tacos) and the inventive cocktails are some of the best you’ll find on the Strip.
