My Background

Lucy Butler is a dichotomy of riches - not only an accomplished actress, but also someone who has taken her extensive travel experience from a young age, and transformed it in to a thriving travel business, which she continues to do between her acting roles. One of those roles is her current one - co-starring in Michael Bay's hit TNT series "The Last Ship." She plays Roberta Price, a powerful Southern Politician that she describes as a cross between Hillary Clinton and Carly Fiorina, with a sprinkling of former Governor of Texas, Ann Richards. The show is currently airing its third season, Sunday nights at 9:00PM.

Butler's other recent credits include roles on NICS, Rizzoli & Isles, Law and Order, Criminal Minds, 24, and The Gilmore Girls. In addition, she has appeared in countless television commercials, including one for American Express, more recently. She also did a series of CDW commercials with NBA star Charles Barkley.

After completing the summer program at the Actor's Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, she went on to do summer stock at Dartmouth College with Peter Parnell, the playwright and writer/producer on "West Wing," among others. In 1980, Lucy moved to Chicago to pursue her dream of stage work. She was accepted into the Second City Main Stage, performing with guest starsincluding Robin Williams and Jim Belushi, and also studied under the legendary improv master Del Close. She then went on to stay with famed Steppenwolf Theater Company. While in Chicago, she did countless commercials and industrial films, and also did her first feature film, "Lucas," which was also Winona Ryder's first film. Moving to California in 1986 to further pursue her films and television career, she went on to appear in such projects as Falcon Crest, Family Ties, The Net, Lost Highway, The West Wing and ER.

While maintaining her successful acting career, Butler opened a concierge service travel company in 1983 called "Where on Earth," which specializes in unique private itineraries across the globe. Her personal area of concentration is Western Europe - specifically Paris, London, Spain, and Italy. Lucy travels the world yearly to uncover the latest secrets of any given country. Many of her clients are industry giants and big name celebrities, but she also specializes in catering to families, helping them to create memories that last a lifetime. She studied the Belle Époque period in Paris, speaks fluent French, and studied at the Scuola Dante Alighieri in Italy to improve her Italian.

Butler's love of travel stems from her childhood. Both her parents are graduates of Stanford and were one of the first volunteers for the Peace Corps during the Kennedy administration. She grew up in the Corps in Kuala Lumpur, and Malaysia, and has not stopped traveling since. She comes from strong lineage - and was born in San Francisco, a sixth generation Californian. One of her relatives, Warren Upson, was the youngest rider of the Pony Express. Her paternal grandfather was a Rhodes scholar and studied at Oxford, appearing three times arguing cases before the Supreme Court of the United States. Her maternal grandfather was a pioneer rancher in North San Diego County.

Lucy also has volunteered at the Children's Institute International, which provides a home for severely at risk children four and under, as well as in the Big Sisters program.

Butler resides in Los Angeles with her husband, who was the Executive Vice President for Twentieth Century Fox Films for twenty-two years. A dog lover, she and her husband have rescued several German Shepherds.
