Jan Weir

Jan Carroll Weir is a Travel Consultant (Custom Travel World, LLC) and an independent affiliate of Travel Experts, Inc. The company is a Virtuoso-affiliated travel agency that specializes in designing bespoke luxury travel experiences for the discerning traveler and Jan works hand-in-hand with clients in the preparation and customization of the total travel experience – from departure to return. The company specializes in travel to all of Europe, Africa, Southeast Asia and the Caribbean, and cruising (ocean and river) and private yachting. She also works with clients who want to travel domestically and to help them discover all that the USA has to offer! Jan Carroll Weir is the owner and president of Custom Travel World and she has been in the travel business for over 20 years.

Jan’s love of travel started at age 16 when she and her grandmother took a whirlwind 16 country tour of Europe and she’s been traveling ever since. While Jan fell in love with seeing the world, she never expected to work in the travel industry. Instead, she received science degrees from The Pennsylvania State University and Boston College, and after working for Tufts Medical Center in Boston, she left her New England roots and accepted a position as a research biochemist with Eli Lilly. From the lab, Jan’s career took her to teaching at both the secondary and college level from which she ultimately retired.

Life would change one fateful afternoon in 2000 in a checkout line at Costco when she encountered a family friend who owned her own travel agency and needed “a few hours help” running her home office. 17 years later and after her mentor's passing, Jan was ready to strike out on her own and opened Custom Travel World, LLC and she continues to serve her past clients along with new ones.

Jan and her husband, Don, travel internationally several times a year and the two have traveled to every one of the continental United States. Jan’s favorite country is France and Don is an architecture and history specialist – a great combination for travel together. They have three grown children ranging in age from 31-40. Jan shares that there are several fundamental characteristics for designing a successful itinerary: breadth of travel knowledge, organization, attention to detail, preparation and planning, immediate / timely feedback, effective and transparent communication skills, and the willingness to do “whatever it takes” to create a travel experience for others that they will remember forever.
